The essence of Sean’s career has been a broad-ranging interest in all aspects of design for film, television and other screen media. His career prior to teaching spans a wealth of experience, beginning as co-founder of his own production company, Meaningful Eye Contact (MEC), with Alex Proyas and Peter Miller. Sean quickly garnered a reputation for eye-catching visuals and inventive concepts. While producing music video clips for high profile acts such as INXS, Crowded House, and Fleetwood Mac, Sean developed a passion for the disciplines of production design, art direction, graphics and animation that would become instrumental in his future career.
During this period Sean received an AFI nomination for “Best Art Direction” for his work on Alex Proyas’ post-apocalyptic gothic fantasy feature Spirits of the Air, Gremlins of the Clouds. MEC were also the recipients of a number of music video awards through the eighties.”
Having turned freelance, Sean continued to work on numerous television commercials, music videos, television productions and several more feature films. Animation and motion graphics had always been an important part of his practice, but in 2001 Sean made the decision to leave Production Design and focus on these areas whilst undertaking a Masters in Design at UTS.
Since then he has undertaken a range of work including infographic animation, screen graphics, museum interactives, collaborations on broadband and mobile platform content, and personal projects. Prior to accepting the role as Head of Animation and Game Development at JMC Academy, Sean taught animation, video design and screen-based media at UTS for over twenty years.
Kwan is the Concept Art and Illustration coordinator and a lecturer at the Academy of Information Technology (AIT). She has worked for MorfDynamics and OneArt Studio as well as freelanced for commercial companies 2and2, Hackett Film and Bohemia Group. She has over five years of industry experience taking on the role of an illustrator, graphic designer, motion graphic animator and concept artist. In 2012, Kwan won the UTS Game Design competition sponsored by Microsoft. In 2015, her team won the Best Use of Theme at Global Game Jam Sydney. She graduated from the University of Technology, Sydney, with a Master’s degree in Animation.
Omar is a digital artist and technologist who has a passion for
computer graphics. He holds degrees and certification in Multimedia,
Information Technology and 3D Animation / VFX. During his varied
career, he has been involved in a wide ranging spectrum of
professional and creative services, including working for consulting
firms and financial corporations on large technology driven projects
as well as producing media for learning systems at major Australian
universities. His animation credits include several feature films and
he is currently working at one of Sydney’s premier animation studios
on a brick – based animated feature, which is awesome.
Bill works for the University of New South Wales (UNSW) as the AV Manager for the College Of Fine Arts (COFA), keeping the audio and video labs and studios running and assisting academic staff, undergraduate and postgraduate students with the wide range of software and hardware that COFA uses.
Bill had 15 years of experience working for Apple as firstly Technical Support Engineer and later as a Systems Engineer, specialising in the Video, Broadcast and Publishing markets. Bill has been trained in Shake, Final Cut Pro, DVD Studio Pro, Motion, Combustion, Apple server products and Vectorworks, but is experienced in a wide range of other software packages.
Bill has worked on a review panel for the University of Wollongong Masters of Digital Media as well as a speaker at the Australasian Music Business Conference. He has also acted as a consultant to Channel 7, Channel 9, and SBS. In the early days of Apple’s entry into the professional video market, Bill provided technical support for many of the Australia post-production houses such as Animal Logic, Rising Sun Pictures, and Fuel.

Dr. Shilo McClean is the author of the books: The Digital Playing Fields: New Rulz for Film, Art and Performance (Currency House, July 2010), Digital Storytelling: the narrative power of visual effects in film (MIT Press, 2007; 2008; 2009) and So What’s This All About Then: a non-user’s guide for digital effects in film (AFTRS, 1998) and she was a consultant to Animal Logic on the production of their Art of the Legend of the Guardians book, (2012) and was UTS Data Arena Showreel’s producer, a 360° 3D stereo CG film created by Animal Logic to be released in 2015. She designs and conducts seminars, workshops, and lectures for industry and tertiary courses in filmmaking, digital visual effects, fine arts, architecture and storycraft and mentors PhD candidates through the UTS Research Mentorship program. For over a decade, she was a consultant to Screen NSW for the establishment and conduct of the annual Digital Visual Effects Scheme. She produced and directed two documentary videos on digital visual effects on their behalf and was a digital strand curator for the Sydney Film Festival, producing and directing the podcasts for the festival program. Her consulting and editorial work ranges from digital image curation for games developers, strategic advice on educational/media ICT development and digital content, and the development of strategy documents and reporting in the areas of digital media/ICT. Shilo has been an active member of the Chapter since its inauguration. Shilo was one of the Founding Board Members of the local Chapter and was the Vice Chair of Sydney ACM SIGGRAPH (Professional Chapter) for almost a decade prior to stepping up for the Chair position in 2012.
James holds a Bachelor of Science (Computer Science & Pure Mathematics) from University of Sydney and a Graduate Diploma in Internetworking from the University of Technology Sydney. He is currently the Head of IT Operations for a major online, bricks and mortar retail vendor and logistics business.
He has 15 years experience in film, TV and online production having worked with Beyond Online, StreamWorks, and Yoram Gross – EMTV. He managed the encoding for News Interactive/Fox/Apple Computer joint venture in online broadcast for the Sydney Olympics in 2000. He was the author of a series of UNIX how-to columns for MacWorld Australia in 2003-2005. He also works as an video editor, compositor, and streaming media, website developer.
He has been an active member of ACM SIGGRAPH (Sydney Professional Chapter) since 2001 and the webmaster for our Chapter website for many years.
Tracey Sernack-Chee Quee is the Higher Education Project Coordinator at TAFE NSW Ultimo campus, and a doctoral candidate at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) in the Faculty of Design, Architecture and Building.
She has more than thirty years industry experience as a professional in the fashion and management sectors of the design industry, as well as over twenty five years experience as a design and digital media educator and curriculum developer at TAFE NSW and the University of NSW.
Tracey’s teaching practices centre around the history of art, design and culture, and helping art and design practitioners develop business acumen through development of a professional practice.
Tracey holds a Masters in Art and Design Education and a Bachelor of Art Education from UNSW Art + Design [formerly the College of Fine Arts (COFA), Sydney], as well as a number of vocational qualifications in a variety of design, digital media and educational disciplines. Tracey was the recipient of the Award for Excellent Service to Public Education and Training in 2004.
Tracey is one of the founding members of the Sydney ACM Siggraph Chapter, and has served as the chapter’s Treasurer for over fifteen years. She is also a member of the Design Institute of Australia (DIA) and held the position of Education and Membership Councillor for the NSW chapter between 2007 and mid-2010. She is a member of the National Association for Visual Arts (NAVA); the Art Association of Australia and New Zealand (AAANZ), the Design Management Institute (DMI) and the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM).
Tracey is passionate about creating and maintaining excellence in vocational and higher education, and creating employment opportunities for graduates in Australia and overseas.
Richard Cass is a designer with over 10 years professional experience in graphic design, web design and illustration working for companies in Canada before returning to start his own creative services studio in Sydney in 2000. Throughout that time, Richard has developed a wide range of skills in the field of visual media design and production including graphic design and pre-press; web design, coding and development; Flash animation and scripting; corporate identity and advertising design; and art and illustration.
Richard holds an Advanced Diploma of Graphic Design from Design Centre Enmore (DCE) and a Bachelor of Adult Education from UTS. He has been at DCE since 2005 as a teacher and head Teacher of Graphic Design & Digital Media and most recently as the Manager of the 3D Animation and Digital Effects courses.
Kit Devine has been involved in computer graphics since 1984. She created her first animation using code while in her last year of art school. She joined XYZap in 1986 and over the next 15 or so years worked in Sydney, London and LA as an animator and effects artist on film and tv projects. She has won a number of Australian and International awards for her commercial work. She began lecturing at the AFTRS in 2002 and has been at the ANU since 2011. She is currently undertaking a phd at COFA in collaboration with the iCinema Centre for Interactive Cinema Research. Her research area is in the field of Virtual Heritage. Her short film Womb with a View was screened at the 1992 London Film Festival. She is a founder member and Empress of the DLF, a significant though informal, network of industry professionals.
