VES post SIGGRAPH LA 2010 event

The Australian Chapter of the Visual Effects Society have organised for a number of our visual effects colleagues who attended Siggraph in LA a few weeks ago to speak at an informal get-together about what interested them at this year’s conference.

We would like to extend an invitation to any Siggraph members in the Sydney area to join us.

Our event will be at Fringe Bar in Paddington on Wednesday the 25th of August from 6.30pm (for a 7pm start)

The night will be $30 a head to cover catering.

Probably best known for the annual SIGGRAPH International conference on computer graphics for film, televisions and new media industries, ACM SIGGRAPH also puts on a variety of programs year-round and worldwide to benefit the SIGGRAPH community. The event listed above is hosted by our local chapter and is free for all chapter members.

Debra Symons

I have over 10 years experience in web design and development. I have acquired a broad knowledge of web technologies during this time.

My specialist skills are creating computer graphics and designing and developing custom interactive web applications.

Outside of work, I am interested in digital media and the broadband technologies that deliver digital content.

Innovation is my passion and I have a special interest in technology and education.

I have a keen interest in photography.

What’s it all about?

Agenda:

  1. Report from the Chair, Nick Hore
  2. Review of the year’s events from the Vice-Chair, Shilo McClean
  3. Financial and Membership Report from the Treasurer, Tracey Sernack-Chee Quee
  4. Election of 2010-2011 Executive Officeholders and Board Members, including Chair, Vice-Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, Web Chair, Membership Chair and Member/s At Large.
  5. Open Forum – comments and questions from members.

After the AGM a screening of a portion of Electronic Theatre from the recent Siggraph 2010 Conference held in Los Angeles, will be held in Lecture Theatre EGO2, COFA. EGO2 is in the main COFA campus at Selwyn Street Paddington. See here for details.

Note On The Election Of Officeholders And Board Members:

You must be a current financial member of the association to nominate for office or to vote at the AGM. Members who wish to renew their membership can do so on the night of the AGM if required. A copy of the membership renewal form is available here.

Members wishing to nominate themselves or other members for 2010-2011 executive or board positions should contact Shilo McClean via email findme@shilomcclean.com by 4th August 2010, including a succinct bio of no more than 300 words. Nominees are expected to give a 2 minute introduction of themselves to fellow members at the AGM, stating how they would like to contribute to the goals of the Association over the next twelve months.

If you are a current member, or are intending on becoming or renewing your membership of Sydney ACM SIGGRAPH, you are encouraged to attend this meeting. It is a good opportunity to meet with colleagues and Board members and to contribute, by voting and otherwise being involved, to the direction of the chapter for the next year.

Richard Cass

Richard Cass is a designer with over 10 years professional experience in graphic design, web design and illustration working for companies in Canada before returning to start his own creative services studio in Sydney in 2000. Throughout that time, Richard has developed a wide range of skills in the field of visual media design and production including graphic design and pre-press; web design, coding and development; Flash animation and scripting; corporate identity and advertising design; and art and illustration.

Richard holds an Advanced Diploma of Graphic Design from Design Centre Enmore (DCE) and a Bachelor of Adult Education from UTS. He has been at DCE since 2005 as a teacher and head Teacher of Graphic Design & Digital Media and most recently as the Manager of the 3D Animation and Digital Effects courses.

Bethany Bruce

As Learning and Development Manager at Metro Screen, a Sydney based film school, Bethany Bruce is dedicated the professional development and skills building of emerging independent storytellers across screen platforms.

Within skills development Bethany is interested in delivering cutting edge training at Metro Screen across a broad range of interactive graphics programs to up skill existing screen practitioners and train up new ones. In terms of personal interests Bethany is passionate about the Australian screen industry and the renewal of the industry by the discovery and nurturing of new talent.

Complementary to this interest, Bethany has skills in traditional film production, editing, graphic design and online producing, with First Class Honours in Media Arts and Production from the University of Technology, Sydney.
