We’ve just had an opportunity to get Anthos Simon, General Manager of Efilm to come share his wealth of knowledge of crucial things you need to know to work to a film standard with DVFx and so we’ve postponed Showreel Showdown till further notice. Please come along to hear what Anthos has to say.

What’s it all about?
Digital Effects Technical Workshop with Anthos Simon, General Manager Efilm. Anthos has led the introduction of digital services for Atlab and will share his wealth of knowledge from films such as Dark City, The Matrix, Hero, and Happy Feet. He will be covering:

  • film stock
  • lenses
  • colour space
  • aspect ratios
  • D/Is
  • scanning & recording
  • on-set data collection
  • camera sheets

and other crucial things to know to work to film standard in DVFx. Anthos is also one of my all-time favorite people, he is a goldmine of information and experience and I absolutely urge you to come and hear what he has to say! It will be one of those nights where things you’ve heard about suddenly all start to make sense.

If you know you want to make stuff and you hope you might also get money for what you make, then this session will cover what you need to think about to find the model that fits what you want to do.

Cost: Free for Siggraph members. $5 cover charge for refreshments for guests and non-members.
(Attendees can sign up as a new member on the night. Annual Membership fees are $40 for professionals and $20 for students)

Probably best known for the annual SIGGRAPH International conference on computer graphics for film, televisions and new media industries, ACM SIGGRAPH also puts on a variety of programs year-round and worldwide to benefit the SIGGRAPH community. The event listed above is hosted by our local chapter and is free for all chapter members.
